I am Every Girl began as an after school group for girls in NYC. It was originally named Girl Society. The group was a learning experience for myself and the girls who participated. The main focus was empowerment through exploration and knowledge. In some meetings the focus was learning about women’s history and in other sessions it was providing experiences that challenged girls to rise beyond what they believed themselves possible of doing.
Girl empowerment is about collaboration and exploration. I always expect and ask the girls I work with to go beyond their expectations for them self, to look for mentors and others who inspire, to always ask why and to always give back to those around them. Empowering is not becoming better than anyone but rather stepping into the power we all have to make our world a better place.
We hope you are inspired!
